As part of Portugal, the Azores are more affordable than Norway or the Maldives. Charter rates are moderate and Portuguese provisioning costs are reasonable, making it good value for such a distinctive destination.
Charter rates
A bareboat monohull runs $3,000–$6,000 per week; catamarans more. Given the open-ocean passages, many charterers add a skipper (~$1,300/week). The small fleet means early booking is important.
Running costs
Portuguese provisioning is reasonable — budget around $70 per person per day. Marina fees average $45 per night, and fuel for a week of inter-island sailing runs around $300–$400. Whale-watching excursions are an easy add-on.

Value notes
The Azores are already one of Europe's better-value cruising grounds — mainland-Portuguese supermarket prices, honest marina fees, and no Mediterranean-style super-tourism premium. The savings levers are modest but real: June and September run 10–15% cheaper than peak with excellent conditions; local markets (São Miguel's Mercado da Graça, fresh tuna from the quay in Horta) beat supermarkets on quality and price; and the archipelago's best experiences — crater-lake hikes, hot springs at Furnas, the Pico vineyards — cost little or nothing.
One honest budget note: getting there is often the biggest variable. Direct flights to Ponta Delgada from the US East Coast and mainland Europe are reasonable when booked early, but inter-island positioning flights (if your charter starts in Horta) add $100–150 per person each way.
