Month-by-Month

April - June: Prime Season

Spring is Malta's finest sailing period. Temperatures are 20-26C and the water is warm enough to swim. The Maltese archipelago - Malta, Gozo, and Comino with its famous Blue Lagoon - is best explored before summer crowds arrive.

September - October: Sweet Spot

Post-August crowds are gone, temperatures remain warm at 25-28C, the first autumn winds bring reliable 12-18 knot breezes, and marina prices drop significantly. October sees the Rolex Middle Sea Race start from Valletta.

Sailing the Maltese Archipelago

A typical Malta charter covers Valletta's Grand Harbour, Marsaxlokk Bay, the Blue Lagoon at Comino, Mgarr on Gozo, and the spectacular Dwejra inland sea. The whole archipelago fits within a 40nm circle - ideal for short charters.

Charter Costs

A 40ft monohull in peak season costs $2,000-$3,500/week bareboat. Shoulder season (April-June, September-October) runs $1,500-$2,500/week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Malta good for first-time charterers?

Yes. The compact archipelago and sheltered bays make Malta excellent for inexperienced sailors. Distances are short enough to motor if needed.

Can you sail from Malta to Sicily?

Yes. The crossing to Sicily is 90-110nm - typically an overnight passage or a long day sail with an early start.
