What's included
A crewed charter typically includes the yacht, the captain, and (on most vessels of 45ft+) a chef/hostess. The captain handles all navigation; the chef handles meals, provisioning, and cabin service.

Working with your captain and crew
The captain is legally responsible for the vessel — their word on navigation and safety is final. Brief your captain on day one: dietary requirements, activity preferences, how early you like to get underway, and any special occasions.
The APA system
The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a fund — typically 25–35% of the base charter rate — deposited with the captain at the start. It covers fuel, provisioning, and marina fees. Full accounting provided at the end.
Tipping etiquette
Industry standard is 10–15% of the base charter rate for excellent service, given in cash to the captain at the end of the trip.
Getting the most from your trip
Brief your captain thoroughly on day one. Share itinerary preferences but stay open to their local knowledge — the best anchorages are rarely in the guidebook.
