Reef & admin fees
Sailing within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park carries modest environmental and admin charges, usually bundled by the charter company. Most operators also run a mandatory briefing before you set off — a Whitsundays hallmark that makes it an unusually beginner-friendly bareboat destination. Many of the best overnight spots, including moorings off Whitehaven Beach, are free or low-cost.
Where to save
Provision in Airlie Beach before departure — it's the last major supply point. Anchor rather than berth; the island group has abundant free anchorages. The Whitsundays' compact size keeps fuel costs low regardless.
